When I set out to write Pennsylvania Day Trips, the place I began my research was VisitPA.com, the state’s official tourism site. I wanted to know the answer to the question: What are the most popular travel destinations in Pennsylvania? Here’s a list of the most popular PA regions.

Philadelphia. The number one destination in Pennsylvania to visit is Philadelphia. Known as the "City of Brotherly Love," Philadelphia offers a rich historical experience with landmarks such as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. There’s a thriving art scene with world renown art museums. Sports, sightseeing, and amazing bars and restaurants make Philly the most popular place to visit in the state.
Lancaster and PA Dutch Country. Experience the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country in Lancaster, where visitors can explore Amish culture, enjoy farmland tours, and shop for handcrafted goods. Shopping is a top activity in this part of the state, so plan your budget accordingly.
Pittsburgh. This vibrant city boasts a blend of industrial heritage and modern attractions, including the Andy Warhol Museum and a dynamic culinary scene. History buffs will love the John Heinz History Museum and plant lovers will be in awe at Phipps Conservatory. Just outside of Pittsburgh is the super popular site, Fallingwater. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the renowned architectural masterpiece set amidst the natural beauty of the Laurel Highlands.
Central Pennsylvania. Think Hershey and Penn State. Dubbed "The Sweetest Place on Earth," Hershey is home to Hershey Park, a chocolate-themed amusement park that has been delighting children for decades. Penn State is a college town, but there’s so much more to do in State College.
Gettysburg. Famous for its pivotal Civil War battlefields, Gettysburg attracts history enthusiasts with its museums, reenactments, and guided tours.

Erie. Located on the shores of Lake Erie, this city offers sandy beaches, waterfront activities, and attractions like the Erie Art Museum and Presque Isle State Park.
Pocono Mountains & Pennsylvania Wilds. These two regions are popular destinations for outdoor enthusiasts. The Poconos offer year-round activities such as hiking, skiing, and water sports, along with scenic resorts. The Pennsylvania Wilds region has more than two million acres of public land, with ample opportunities for hiking, fishing, and wildlife watching in a serene, natural setting.
